VICTORIAN GARDEN LABELS
The D.I.Y. Plant Label Kit.
Create your own aluminium plant labels using an ordinary pair of scissors, and the marker
pen provided. Victorian gardeners made their own labels using sheet zinc, some of which are
still being dug up in restoration projects around the country. I have brought the idea up to
date using aluminium. The kit comes with
full instructions, ideas and templates, and enough sheet aluminium to make
200 simple labels. This is a great example of primary recycling, the sheets of aluminium
in the kit, 5 regular gauge, and 5 heavy duty are cut from industrial waste with no further
imput of energy. The waste would normally be melted down and cast into ingots, these would
be sold on and transported to another site where they would be melted down again and made into
car gearboxes for example, all this consuming energy, and only saving the energy used in
the original smelting of the aluminium ore. By re-using the sheet as it is, you save valuable
energy and help the environment. My plant labels "Don't Cost The Earth". At £6.00 each including
postage, I think you will agree. Follow the sequence of photo's below to see how easy it is
to produce your own custom made aluminium labels at a fraction of the cost of shop bought
labels, and you have the satisfaction of knowing you are doing your bit for the environment.
In recent trials published in the Telegraph Gardening Section, and The Kitchen Garden Magazine,
of all the metal labels trialed, my kits worked out the cheapest per label in both cases.
